Don't compromise and sell out
No matter how viciously loud
They criticize, threaten, and shout
Marine corporal Trent Thomas
Has done the right thing
Publicly admitting wrong doing
Pleading guilty to kidnapping
And murdering an unarmed Iraqi
He gave his testimony on AC 360
The war weary corporal is a hero
Not for killing a 52-year old man
A civilian named Hashim Ibrahim Awad
Nor for being in the killing squad
But for telling the truth about war
How it effected his pure inner core
With Iraq, Thomas wants no more
Though he'd like to re-enlist to serve
This purple heart holder won't swerve
Neither compromise his Christian witness
Though his allegations some reject and dismiss
His sergeant's orders Thomas fully obeyed
Though in so doing justice was betrayed
Such is the ongoing plight of war
Now the military's reputation is tore
As some come clean and others deny
Intelligence about WMD is used on the sly
Rarely do we at home ever ask why
The innocent continue to suffer and die
How long must we stay the course
Quiet our conscience and our heart divorce?
Heroically confessing to his crime
Cpl. Trent Thomas should serve no time
The question that must be asked however
Is why do soldiers try to quickly cover
Their murderous mishaps with a shovel
While placing an AK-47 next to the dead
To make it look like a bomb plant instead
Atrocities the Dept. of Defense does dread
Meanwhile policy makers in DC bang heads
Go home to be well fed and rest on their beds
Never any disturbances in their neighborhood
How than can they relate to trying to do good
In the middle of a bloody civil war in Iraq
So many dissidents complicates who to attack
Who to believe, when to retreat, or fire back
The entire military strategy does sadly lack
A resolution for a sound diplomatic solution
Continual killing only causes more alienation
Increasing our enemies seeking retribution
This ill conceived war is gaining criticism
Active-duty military personnel are protesting
The war in Iraq is inhumane and disheartening
Marine Corps Sgt. Liam Madden has no regrets
Concerning his enlistment and the war of whack
Though he protests America's occupation and attack
Saying if he'd known the U.S. would invade Iraq
He probably wouldn't have enlisted for that.
Mostly concerned about the reasons we went to war
Madden feels it was for profiteering for sure
Disenchanted by the loss of human life
Fundamentally wars only breed more strife
Iraq Veterans Against the War also are unhappy
Veterans for Peace and Military Families Speak Out
They've introduced the End the War in Iraq Act
Iraq is a fiasco and that's an undeniable fact
Pres. Bush may have an unbending bone in his back
But his dubious intel and secrecy will catch much flak
Families are growing impatient and want sons home
Not content to have their flesh defend the Green Zone
Maneuvering and living for green always turns mean
Neither is politics and a military effort as it does seem
The truth we must embrace, honor, and not demean
Heroic are soldiers who tell the truth and come clean.
